Fabbrica Automatismi Apertura Cancelli (FAAC) was founded in 1965 in Zola Predosa by the far sighted genius of a visionary entrepreneur from Bologna, Giuseppe Manini, who anticipated the arrival and importance that the automation of residential and commercial accesses would have had in every day life.
FAAC focused immediately on the quality and reliability of hydraulic technology constituting in a few years a presence on the Italian market which still today is synonymousfor gate automation. The automation is made up of a series of components consisting of an installation management programming unit, 1 or 2 worm screw rams and a special connecting cable. The ram, built around a robust structure in cast aluminium, features an efficient motor that works in complete synergy with a high performance reduction unit that is isolated inside a waterproof compartment and is lubricated using permanently fluid grease. The special, well thought out, three piece carter, the rotating screw supported by double bearings and the special drag screw make it a top of the range ram with a unique performance level. It moves silently and fluently and is controlled (via an encoder integrated into the motor) by the programmer supplied with the product. These horizontal action rams are extremely easy to fit without need for brickwork and they offer excellent service in terms of the number of manoeuvres.

Gate position is encoder-controlled and self-programming thus reducing installation times to a minimum and optimising the programming procedure. Repositioning takes place automatically whenever foreign objects get in the way of the gate as it is moving. The electronic control unit is completed by the anti-crush and “soft start” and “soft stop” functions.
In case of blackouts, emergency manoeuvring is guaranteed by a key-operated manual release mechanism that is efficient under all working conditions. The ram can be fitted with an external lever-operated locking and unlocking system using a remote cord.

The Company started operations in a rented shop lot in Taman Mutiara selling and installing locally manufactured and imported automatic gates. It moved to a 58,000 sq. ft, RM5 million building cum factory in Cheras Jaya in 1989. High precision computerised machinery costing RM1 million were imported from Japan to boost production and improve quality. Even so, this was insufficient as the Company expanded tremendously in the last few years. Today, the Company occupies a 2-acre site in Balakong, Selangor. A total of RM10 million was invested to upgrade the production department with 4 latest-model computerised production machinery which has an output that is more than 10 times the old machinery.
Early in the Company’s history, Mr Wong Kim noticed that existing models of automatic gates were far from satisfactory. They were slow, prone to malfunction and expensive. Mr Wong Kim experimented with various designs and soon came out with am improved drive mechanism with a mechanical design that was very reliable and safe.
Initially, the drive mechanisms were fabricated in Japan and imported to Malaysia. With the Yen rising over the years, the Company took the innovative step of assembling the drive mechanism locally. As the product gained wider acceptance and sales continued to increase, the Company decided to manufacture the components itself. This lead to increased productivity and lower costs, and today, the Company is the undisputed leader in the automatic gate industry. The Company marketed its automatic gate systems under the brand name “Signal” . In 1987, patents were granted for the product in Malaysia, Great Britain and Japan. This is an achievement for the Company as it proves that Malaysia products can be accepted in industrialised nations as well.
